Leather exports from Brazil to India saw a boom in 2019: they grew 53.1% in volume compared to 2018 and 21.4% in value. Amid this environment of positive results and prospects for 2020, the India International Leather Fair (IILF) will take place in Chennai from February 1st–3rd with the participation of two Brazilian tanneries (JBS Couros and Partner), through the support of Brazilian Leather. Brazilian leather is an export incentive project carried out by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).
Rogério Cunha from CICB Trade Intelligence explains that India is strategic for Brazil's leathers, particularly for its connection with footwear and artifact production. The results obtained in 2019, he points out, are linked to Brazil's consecutive presence at editions of the IILF fair and also commercial and prospecting missions that have been carried out in recent years.
