boi_rastreamentoBrazilian leather exports in January 2013 monthly figures showed a significant increase in exports of hides and skins, compared to the same period last year. International sales reached US$ 164 million, representing a 17.9% growth, while January 2012 amounted US$ 139 million.

This is certainly a fact to be celebrated by the leather industry, which has been facing several challenges to raise its monthly exports. For the current year, CICB is already promoting a number of measures to help exporters to overcome the difficulties imposed on the industry, such as national high taxation, infrastructure issues and also the economic crisis hitting international markets to the leather goods.

Last year, Brazilian trade surplus reached US$ 19.4 billion. Leather exports have contributed with more than 10% of this amount. Hides and skins’ participation in all Brazilian exported products rose from 0.8% in 2011 to 0.9% in 2012 - US$ 2.079 billion.

The efforts aiming to expand dialog with international target markets for Brazilian Leather are continuous. The organization’s agenda includes the participation in the most renowned leather industry trade shows, such as Le Cuir A Paris, APLF and ACLE in Hong Kong and Shanghai where CICB will promote the differentials of the Brazilian companies for the seasons ahead. Despite the main focus on Summer 2014, Winter Leather Preview 2014 projections will be shown.

The Leather Preview project, developed in partnership with Apex-Brasil – Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, will show materials trends to be presented to designers, buyers and entrepreneurs, introducing the creative works which are due to start soon.

During the Fimec (International Fair for Leather, Chemical Products, Components, Machines, and Equipment for Footwear and Tanneries) on March 12th - 15th, the Buyer Project and Image Project promotion will be in the limelight. The schemes bring together Brazilian and foreign entrepreneurs with the aim to generate business, strengthen relationship and attract investment during the event.

Promotion actions and the large volume of exports in the last decade (from US$ 700 million in 2000 to US$ 2.071 billion in 2012) are due to the efforts of the Brazilian Leather Program, an initiative of CICB and Apex-Brasil.
