Located in the city of Presidente Prudente, in São Paulo, Vitapelli is one of the major tanning companies in Brazil. It has the capacity to produce over 3,5 million hides per year.

Vitapelli enters now a new stage by joining the Brazilian Leather Sustainability Certification (CSCB). “The certification reinforces our commitment to a high standard work towards our clients, employees and the community. It’s a program that faces social and environmental issues with complete transparency”, says Vitapelli director Paulo Cesar Faustino.

CSCB is promoted by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) with support from the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).

Vitapelli is specialized in finished leather for the footwear, artifacts, furniture and automotive industries. From now on, Vitapelli joins the 173 indicators created by a Special Study Committee from ABNT (the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards), covering criteria such as water and energy consumption, restricted substances, productive performance, waste management, relation to collaborators, amongst others. When this stage is completed the company is ready to order an audit by a certifying body accredited by Inmetro (the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology) in order to obtain the certification. CSCB holds four levels: Bronze (for those who follow up to 50% of the indicators applicable from each of the four dimensions), Silver (75%), Gold (90%) and Diamond (100%).

CSCB is an unprecedented program in the world of leather. It covers the economic, environmental, social and management dimensions of sustainability. CSCB will prove to be a milestone in the leather and footwear production chain, gaining recognition from both buyers and final consumers.
