February brought a brief expansion of Brazilian leather shipment overseas. During the second month of the year, the value of exports within the sector reached US$ 195 million. When compared to January 2015, the number represents an increase of 6,4%. In comparison to the same period last year, however, when Brazil exported US$ 250,1 million, there was a reduction of 22%.

“The leather segment, as well as other production sectors, should face a year of economic oscillations. Results shown during the first two months of the year suggest the challenges our market is expecting throughout 2015”, says José Fernando Bello, executive president of the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB).

Still according to the Department of Foreign Trade from the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), the participation of the item ‘Hides and Skins’ in Brazilian exports has grown from 1,3% to 1,5%.

The complete indicators regarding Brazilian exports in February 2015 are to be released by MDIC in the next two weeks.
