Leather from Brazil focused on Spain

Participation in a Spanish fair brought Brazil closer to Spain’s strong potential market for developing leather exports. Four business groups took part in the Futurmoda fair with the organizational support of the Brazilian Leather Project, an initiative of the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) to encourage Brazilian leather exports.

Brazil had its inaugural participation in the Futurmoda fair, located in the city of Elche, on October 25th and 26th. The public (nearly 6 thousand visitors) responded well to leathers from Brazil, confirming Spain as a market with good prospects for exports. "The visitors and buyers of the fair recognize leather as a noble material not only for footwear but also for artifacts, and they understand that it provides a differential for their products," says Rogério Cunha of CICB's Business Intelligence. According to him, there are opportunities for leather from Brazil to expand business in Spain, especially for tanneries working in the fashion segment.

In addition to each tannery’s individual stand, Brazilian leather was represented in an exclusive booth with the Leather Preview exhibition, showing hides from several Brazilian companies (not all of which were present at the event), and multiplying contacts and possibilities for new business.
