In July the leather sector's principle global events had Brazil's participation and contributions. In Ho Chi Minh, Shoes and Leather Vietnam hosted four Brazilian tanneries who presented their leathers to a booming market. In New York, the World Leather Congress, Lineapelle (with six Brazilian tanneries) and a debate with the Brazilian Leather Certification of Sustainability (CSCB) set the scene for fashion creation in the city. All of these activities were supported by Brazilian Leather, a project that encourages the growth of Brazil's leathers in foreign markets and was developed by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).
According to Rogério Cunha from CICB Trade Intelligence, the Vietnam fair saw significantly better results for Brazil in 2019 than in 2018, with more on-site business conducted and higher sales projections for coming months. The southeast Asian country remains one of the most important for Brazil's leather exports (fourth in overall exports) and has established itself as a global shoe export (closing the first half of 2019 with a 14% growth in foreign sales), behind only China.
In New York, a mix of learning and developing business relationships marked the July days that were dedicated to leather. The United States hosted for the first time the World Leather Congress (strategically scheduled for the eve of Lineapelle), introducing new designers and fashion industry creators to how leather can be a disruptive tool in fashion. Coming together with the purpose of sharing positive industry experiences, Lineapelle set aside a specific moment during the trade show for a certification debate between the CSCB, LWG (the UK) and ICEC (Italy); a qualified audience honored the activity, showing that transparency, guarantees, and partnerships are indeed a rising demand in the leather sector.
