Brazilian leather exports show an increase of 18,6% in 2014

Brazil has registered in November a total of US$ 206 million in exports of hides and skins. Figures were released by the Department of Foreign Trade – Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), with further analysis from the Department of Intelligence at the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB).

These numbers represent a decrease of 4,4% in comparison to November 2013. Still, the yearly accumulate shows an increase of 18,6% in comparison to the first 11 months of 2013, reaching a total of US$ 2,692 billion. This value alone is higher than the total of leather exports registered in 2013, which reached US$ 2,511 bilhões.

José Fernando Bello, executive president of CICB, says the Brazilian leather sector has been investing heavily in quality, technology and sustainability in order to set itself apart in the global market.
